Customers have been asking for a green Avian Dissuader for awhile now. I was opposed because I understood that there was no real difference in effectiveness between green and red. However, after speaking with some customers who purchased the Lord Ingénierie hand held green laser (cost about $5,400) and wildlife biologists I trust at USDA/APHIS/Wildlife Services I became convinced that there were indeed advantages to using a green laser against birds in certain circumstances.

Initial tests indicate that diurnal birds (Starlings, Pigeons, Grackles, etc.) seem to react better to green. I have also noticed that raptors (Eagles, Hawks, etc) seem to react more to green - however my testing has been limited so far to Falcons, so I am not certain about that.

The green laser allows me to work birds in higher ambient light conditions than red allows - both before dusk and after dawn. This is because the green beam spot is visible under higher light conditions. However this doesn't mean that the green laser will work in bright daylight.

Pricing for the green laser is higher than red because the materials are more expensive. Yes, I know there are inexpensive laser diodes out there, but they require more power to run and are often unstable and require a separate cooling circuit to keep them from overheating. The diode I am using will support large swings in temperature while requiring minimal current - it is very efficient and will allow the green Avian Dissuader to be used just like the red.

Even though the green laser appears to perform better than the red - we still feel that the red Avian Dissuader is an excellent solution for many applications - especially those that involve aquatic or night flying birds.
